Empowering rural women in Chhattisgarh with the skills, confidence, and entrepreneurial knowledge to transform their traditional pickle-making expertise into a sustainable source of income.
On 16 April 2025, Uplift Live Foundation conducted a two-day Pickle Making Livelihood Program in Ambikapur, Chhattisgarh. Seventeen participants — the majority of them women from rural households — came together to explore how a deeply rooted traditional skill could be transformed into a viable, income-generating enterprise. Over two days, participants received hands-on training in product quality, branding, packaging, and entrepreneurship, gaining the tools they need to access wider markets and build financial independence.
The primary aim of this two-day training was to equip rural women with the necessary skills, knowledge, and confidence to turn their traditional pickle-making expertise into a sustainable source of income. The focus was on improving product quality, branding, packaging, and entrepreneurial knowledge to help them access wider markets and increase profitability. By bridging the gap between traditional craft and modern market readiness, the program sought to unlock the economic potential these women already carry within their communities.
Participants learned the end-to-end process of making, packaging, and selling pickles — from raw ingredients to market-ready products.
Gained confidence in taking entrepreneurial steps, with a clear understanding of how to position their products competitively.
Understood how to create a brand and market a homemade product effectively across local, urban, and digital channels.
Built strong community bonds and support networks, laying the foundation for future collaboration and collective entrepreneurship.
The training left a significant impact on all attendees. Many participants expressed renewed enthusiasm for turning their skills into income-generating ventures. With better awareness of business tools and a clear path forward, these women are now more empowered to contribute to their family income and take on leadership roles within their communities.
Renewed motivation to convert traditional skills into viable, income-generating enterprises at the household level.
Greater awareness of business tools — pricing, packaging, and marketing — giving participants a competitive edge in the market.
Empowered women stepping into leadership roles within their communities, inspiring others to pursue skill-based livelihoods.
A foundation for collective entrepreneurship has been laid, with participants eager to form self-help groups and collaborate on sales.
The Pickle Making Livelihood Program was a successful step in the foundation's ongoing mission to provide demand-based support to rural communities through practical, skill-based training. The energy and enthusiasm of participants throughout both days reflected how powerful it is to invest in what people already know — and simply help them scale it.
Uplift Live Foundation aims to provide continued mentoring and follow-up support to these participants and organize advanced-level sessions in the future. Plans are also underway to replicate this model in other regions, reaching more women with similar potential. By pairing traditional knowledge with modern entrepreneurial tools, we believe every community holds within it the seeds of its own economic transformation.
